1980 - 1990
Loss Adjusting career commenced with McLaren Dick & Co in Adelaide and later Mount Gambier.

1990 - 1992
Managed family farming operation that included the acquisition and redevelopment of two farms and supervision of a large beef cattle artificial breeding program.

Established a new Loss Adjusting business in Adelaide, Laidlaw Young now trading as YDR Loss Adjusters.

Established Brandwood Young Loss Adjusters specialising in factual investigations of public liability, professional indemnity and claims of an agricultural nature.

Joined Freemans, Adelaide handling a broad range of public liability claims and other lines of business for a variety of Insurers and their legal advisers in South Australia and Western Australia.

Transferred with Freemans to Shepparton, where I managed a team of staff servicing Northern Victoria and Southern New South Wales.

Joined Echelon Australia and opened an office in Shepparton servicing all of Victoria.

Specialist Areas

Mark began his Loss Adjusting career in 1980 in Adelaide and returns to the business having been one of the founders of Laidlaw Young in 1992 now trading as YDR Chartered Loss Adjusters. 

He has handled a variety of liability and property claims across a range of business sectors and brings to the team a wealth of experience in the investigation and handling of many complex matters including agricultural losses within the Rural Sector.

Mark has been an active member of AILA and held the following committee positions:-

1995 - 2005
Elected Committee Member of SA Branch of Australian Insurance Law Association.

  • Served as Secretary from 1997 - 2003. During this period, the Committee was involved in the running of two National Conferences in 1996 and 2003

2017 - 2018
Elected Committee Member of Victorian Branch of Australian Insurance Law Association. 

Recent Significant Losses

2007 - Large Seed contamination claim in South Australia and Victoria. 

2009 - Black Saturday Bushfire Claims in Victoria.

2010 - Storm claims in North Central Victoria.

2010 - Major Hotel Fire.

2011 - Flood and Storm related claims throughout North Western Victoria, including significant losses with Local Government and other Allied Industry organisations.

2013 - Major product liability claim involving the Tomato Industry.

2014 - Investigating several claims relating to alleged bullying of children.

2015 - Investigation of several rural fires arising from farming activities and the assessment of third-party losses resulting therefrom.

2017 - Product Liability claim involving alleged contamination of sparkling wine destined for export

Wide variety of personal injury claims arising from workplace accidents

Several significant product liability claims involving alleged contamination of food.
